I am looking for a document transcribed by John Clement in a book A Sketch of the Life and Character of John Fenwick (Philadelphia: Friends Historical Assoc., 1875) pp. 30-33.
The book can be found at https://archive.org/details/sketchoflifechar02clem
The Document has no title. But it is an agreement signed in London between John Fenwick and the colonists he is about to bring to New Jersey. The document is signed and dated dated June 28, 1675.
The first sentence of the agreement reads: "Whereas, Charles the Second, king of England, Scotland, &c., did by his grant under the great seale of England bearing date the twelfth day of March, one thousand six hundred sixty and four, unto his royal highness James, Duke of York, his heirs and assigns forever."
Clement claims the document "is now in good preservation in the office of the Secretary of State, at Trenton, with the sign-manual of each written down" (p. 30).
It is signed by Fenwick and 32 of the colonists.
I have searched the online catalog of your holdings with no luck.
Please let me now if the document is in your files and if I could obtain a TIFF or jpeg of it.
Thank you,
